Union Whistle

One of the reasons I fell in love with my husband is that he makes me laugh. I know it's an old cliche to say that a woman loves a sense of humor, but I guess the cliche is around because it's true.

Recently he started doing this really funny thing that actually isn't funny at all. It makes me laugh every time, so he is having a hard time understanding how irritating it is; but it is irritating.

When he is doing a chore that he doesn't want to do any more, he makes a sound like a loud train whistle and then announces that the union whistle has blown and that he can't do any more work. If I protest he says to take it up with the union and that it's out of his hands.

Despite my protests, he insists that he's in a union and that he can't break the rules by doing any work once the whistle has blown.

  1. Its funny how one person can remember events completely differently from another person.

My husband read this post and said that I was the one who first raised the idea of the union whistle by pointing out that he hadn't completed some task and saying, "Did you think you heard a whistle signaling the end of the work day?"

I guess history really does belong to the people who record the events.

  2. I love this post! I'm going to create my own whistle and start using it. Then I'll go upstairs and knit.
